• Creator Backlash: Matt Frewer told the AV Club that he grew frustrated with the show's increasingly outlandish writing, which resulted in his leaving before the final season. Frewer admits that while his memories of Psi Factor aren't entirely positive, he appreciated its fanbase and enjoyed meeting fans at conventions and promotional events, and that he's "grateful to Psi Factor for kind of opening that door for me."
• Recycled Script: The show frequently reused monsters and plot lines, with only moderate variations between them. Besides the many episodes featuring alien abduction in some form, specific examples include:
  • "Ghostly Voices" and "The Haunting" both feature ghostly occurrences that turn out to be hoaxes (though the latter has an ambiguous twist near the end).
  • "Donor" and "Harlequin" both feature genetically mutated creatures attacking animals, and eventually humans.
  • "Hell Week" and "School of Thought" both feature troubled teens with psychic powers wreaking havoc.
