Trivia / Porky's

Go To

  • Ashcan Copy: The fourth film, Porky's: Pimpin' Pee Wee was made on No Budget and in a ridiculously short timeframe, simply to derail a planned remake of the first film by Howard Stern.
  • Dawson Casting: Given all the sex jokes, pretty much unavoidable. Although set in high school, the main actors were in their mid 20s, with Scott Colomby (who played Brian Schwartz) a ripe old 29-years-old at the time of the film's release, and 32 at the time of Porky's Revenge, where he still played a high school student. Honeywell, of Immodest Orgasm fame, was played by a 25-year-old Kim Cattrall, although in her case it's justified, as she's not playing a student but a young junior teacher.
  • Edited for Syndication: The trilogy made frequent appearances on USA's Up All Night, with various degrees of editing for language and nudity. For example, the famous scene in which one of the boys sticks his penis through a hole in the shower wall is left in. The next scene, however, is edited to suggest he stuck his tongue through the hole.
  • Follow the Leader: While it was piggybacking on Animal House itself, this film became such a huge hit it kicked off the Teen Sex Comedy boom of The '80s. Practically every such film made after it borrowed a thing or two from Porky's.
  • Irony as She Is Cast: Reportedly, the actor playing Meat was modestly endowed, and the actor playing Pee Wee was well hung.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: Subverted by Pimpin' Pee Wee, which had a very limited release on cable and DVD, but is quite easy to find on streaming video and file-sharing websites, presumably because the rights holders don't really care enough to prevent people from pirating it.

  • Sleeper Hit: Made on a modest $5 million budget with no big name stars and initially opening in limited release, it went onto make $165 million, putting it among the top 5 highest grossing movies of 1982. It was the runaway success of Porky's that allowed Bob Clark to finally get his longtime dream project A Christmas Story greenlighted.
  • What Could Have Been: Chuck Mitchell turned down the chance of reprising his role in Porky's II: The Next Day, because he didn't want to appear naked in the final scene.
  • Write What You Know: Bob Clark's teenage experiences in Florida with several friends inspired him to write the film.
