  • Box Office Bomb: Budget, 12-17 million francs. Box office, $2 million. The massive budget is due to the film's equally massive set—an entire urban neighborhood built by Jacques Tati for the film, called "Tativille"—and Tati filming it on 70mm film and using stereophonic sound. Its low gross is due to not many theatres being able to screen the film properly. It's since been Vindicated by History as Tati's all-around masterpiece. This however didn't save Tati from total disaster, as he put up his own money. He wound up losing his house, his production company, and the rights to all of his prior movies.
