Trivia / Phineas and Ferb The Movie: Candace Against the Universe

Go To

  • All-Star Cast: Aside from the usual line-up, we also have Ali Wong, Wayne Brady, Diedrich Bader, Thomas Middleditch, Tiffany Haddish, "Weird Al" Yankovicnote , Bill Farmer, and Thomas Sanders.
  • Cut Song: "Step Into the Great Unknown" appears on the soundtrack, but not in the film. It was essentially replaced by the scene of Baljeet describing what dangers they might encounter using visual aids.
  • Edited for Syndication: Actually averted for once! When this aired on Disney Channel in 2023, as a lead-in to the Series Finale of The Owl House, the film was aired with no cuts and commercial-free. The only things added were slight fade-outs and fade-ins to indicate act breaks and the closing credits after "Silhouettes" were pushed down to make way for promos.
  • Fake Brit: David Errigo Jr. as Ferb.
  • I Want You to Meet an Old Friend of Mine: The opening number was written by Dan Povenmire and Karey Kirkpatrick (Chicken Run, Smallfoot, Something Rotten!), Dan's old college roommate.
  • Meaningful Release Date: There are two examples of this:
    • The announcement for the movie's August 28 release date was on July 2, 2020, the 35th birthday of Candace's voice actress, Ashley Tisdale.
    • The first trailer for the movie came out on August 5, 2020, the nine year anniversary of the show's first movie.
  • Non-Singing Voice: Surprisingly averted. All of the voice actors do their own singing for their characters. Even Mitchel Musso and Kelly Hu, even though their characters don't have solos. Also, Ferb isn't dubbed over for comedic purposes. In his one line for "We're Back" (not heard in the film), David Errigo, Jr. simply speaks the line Rex Harrison style.
  • The Original Darrin: The French dub of Phineas and Ferb was done in France, while the one for Milo Murphy's Law was done in Belgium. As such, none of the PAF characters had their original voice actors coming back for the latter. With this movie being dubbed in France again, those same voice actors were able to reprise their roles.
  • The Other Darrin: Due to schedule conflicts, once again, Thomas Brodie-Sangster does not return to voice Ferb. Instead, he is voiced by David Errigo, Jr., who previously played the role in the Milo Murphy's Law crossover.
  • Playing Against Type: Diedrich Bader is best known for playing husky voiced characters like Batman, Judah, and Albert. So the fact that he plays an alien with a cartoonishly squeaky voice is quite a stretch for him.
  • Production Lead Time: This film began production long before the pandemic, so the main characters wearing masks (gas masks in this case, but still) for protection is surprisingly relevant.
  • Refitted for Sequel: The Medium-Shift Gag where the scene gradually turns into storyboards was originally considered for the cancelled theatrical film and according to the creators, is the only aspect from it that got recycled for this film.
  • Role Reprise: Most of the regular voice cast from the series reprises their roles for the movie. David Errigo Jr as Ferb is the exception, but he still falls under this due to reprising the role from Milo Murphy's Law. Likewise, Bob Bowen, director for the movie and the series, returns to voice Trucker Ted.
  • Sequel Gap: The movie came out nine years after the previous movie, Phineas and Ferb The Movie: Across the 2nd Dimension, and five years after Phineas and Ferb aired the final episode of its initial run.
  • Throw It In!: Buford carrying a canoe in practically every scene is a result of this.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • "Such a Beautiful Day" was actually the last song to be written, because the film was originally going to completely start In Medias Res with Candace already trying to bust her brothers. But it was ultimately decided that this made Candace look too mean and they wanted the audience to sympathize with her since she was going to be the central character.
    • Milo Murphy was meant to have a cameo, but it was cut from the film, with his voice actor playing a different character, the t-shirt cannon guy.
    • Irving was meant to have a larger role, but his scene was cut due to time constraints. He ultimately makes an appearance in the final song.
    • Stacy was meant to play a larger role in the film and be a part of Perry's subplot in the film, but it was ultimately cut from the final product, with Stacy only appearing briefly in the film.
    • A storyboarded opening originally had Candace live-streaming on her blog and getting irate talking about her brothers. Then the commenters turn against her saying they love Phineas and Ferb and hate Candace. At one point, poop emojis flood the video, and Candace says she hopes those are chocolate pudding emojis.
    • Tiffany Haddish was initially cast as Super Super Big Doctor, but was recast with Ali Wong when Haddish was already playing a similar character in The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part.
    • The Disney Acid Sequence of "The Universe is Against Me" was originally longer.
    • Isabella's line in "Us Against the Universe" was "Let's take some time to thank the guys who work on all this animation", but it was changed to the more gender-neutral "folks" to make it more inclusive.
