- Schedule Slip: A stretch goal met during the Kickstarter
for the 20th Anniversary Book Collection in 2018 was for one of the main characters in the comic to graduate before the end of that year. As of June 2020, this has yet to come to fruition. - What Could Have Been: One of the stretch goals met during the Kickstarter for the second movie was for the film to include an adaptation of the comic storyline in which Tajel gets married. Though the plot of the movie did get significantly expanded from the original plans (which were focused primarily on Cecelia's thesis defense), Tajel's marriage did not make it into the final version.
- Write Who You Know: The author is himself a Stanford alumnus and former graduate student (he spent grad school turning bugs into cyborgs).
