  • Cross-Dressing Voices: It's pretty obvious that the Paperboy in the Genesis version of the sequel is voiced by a woman.
  • Port Overdosed: Up there with the most widely-ported games of all time. There is almost no platform, be it console, computer, or handheld, that cannot play Paperboy.
  • Sleeper Hit: When the game originally debuted in arcades, it did good, but not amazing numbers. However, a few years later the game started becoming more popular, especially thanks to the home console ports, with the NES version in particular reportedly selling over a million units.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • The Nintendo 64 remake was also supposed to come out for the Playstation, as mentioned in some trailers for the game, but was shelved.
    • The original design for the arcade game had much more bizarre enemies, such as giant snails and ducks in business suits, however focus group testers found some of these elements "too childish" and it was kept a bit more realistic. Some leftovers of these enemies, such as Death and the wolfman, were still kept in the final game.
