- Box Office Bomb: Budget, $150 million. Gross, $35,088,320 (domestic); $128,388,320 (worldwide). It was one of the biggest bombs of 2015.
- Cast the Runner-Up: For the Latin Spanish dub, Mireya Mendoza (the regular voice of Amanda Seyfried) voiced Mary in the first trailer, but Leyla Rangel was cast instead. Despite this, Mireya was given the part of Tiger Lily.
- Creator Backlash: Rooney Mara has since regretted playing Tiger Lily due to inadvertently perpetuating whitewashing in the industry.
- Creator Breakdown: Joe Wright has admitted that he was so devastated by the film's box office failure that he almost retired from directing.
- Deleted Role: Leni Zieglmeier was cast as Wendy but her scenes were cut from the final film.
- Dyeing for Your Art: Hugh Jackman shaved his head bald and grew a thick bushy beard for his role as Blackbeard.
- Fake Brit: Hugh Jackman, Amanda Seyfried and Rooney Mara use British accents to play the Neverland characters. Averted with Hook though, who becomes American like Garrett Hedlund.
- Playing Against Type:
- Director example. Joe Wright has found most of his fame doing period dramas like Pride & Prejudice (2005), Atonement and Anna Karenina. Here he's helming a PG fantasy flick.
- Hugh Jackman tends to play a dark Anti-Hero, as opposed to the Agent Peacock Anti-Villain that Blackbeard is.
- Promoted Fanboy: Levi Miller is a huge fan of Peter Pan, having played him in drama productions and lists PJ Hogan's film as one of his favourites.
- So My Kids Can Watch: Joe Wright directed the film for his son.
- Stillborn Franchise: More films were planned, presumably featuring Hook's eventual FaceāHeel Turn and more of Wendy and Tinker Bell. After the colossal bomb that was the first, that put the kibosh on any franchise hopes.
- What Could Have Been:
- Javier Bardem was the first choice for the role of Blackbeard note .
- Lupita Nyong'o was considered for the role of Tiger Lily before Rooney Mara was cast. But given that Mara herself admitted that her casting in the role of an originally Native American character was problematic, one would expect that Nyong'o would have been an equally poor casting choice, given the circumstances.
