Trivia / Olivia Newton-John

  • Banned in China: "Physical" was refused airplay by some radio stations due to its sexual themes (including several in Utah), and censored by others. Thus, despite its 10-week stay at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 due to massive single sales, the song stopped at #2 on the airplay-only chart of Radio and Records magazine.
  • Cowboy BeBop at His Computer: Many sources claim that the backing vocalist on "Let Me Be There" and "If You Love Me (Let Me Know)" is named Navin Harris. This stems from a bit of Wikipedia vandalism that went unchecked for years. The actual backing vocalist was Mike Sammes.
  • Demand Overload: Her death on August 8, 2022 caused Google to crash and display error messages to people trying to use the service as a result of too many people trying to look up what had happened.
  • Playing Against Type: Her starring role in Grease and specifically the song "You're the One That I Want" is an example, as that song was a stark departure from her previous catalog of mainly middle-of-the-road and country-tinged soft rock music. Afterward, she was able to successfully incorporate more harder rock and dance sounds into her repertory with hits like "A Little More Love," "Physical," and "Heart Attack" while shedding her country leanings but not completely abandoning her adult contemporary following.
  • Similarly Named Works: Her 1977 hit "Don't Stop Believin'" (which was also the Title Track of its album) is not the same song as the Journey anthem.
  • What Could Have Been: The role of Sandy in Grease was originally offered to Marie Osmond, who turned it down for moral reasons.
  • She was the maternal grand-daughter of German Jewish Nobel Prize–winning physicist Max Born, and a descendant of Protestant theologian Martin Luther.
