- Creator Backlash: Crystal Lee Sutton, the unionist who Norma Rae was based on, wasn't happy with this film, and felt that the picture should have been a docu-drama. She also didn't get any profits from it.
- Referenced by...: The Nanny episode "The Strike" has Maxwell produce a musical about Norma Rae. Ironically, the busboys hired for the afterparty strike against their own bosses, and a supportive Fran stubbornly refuses to cross their picket line.
- What Could Have Been: Jane Fonda and Faye Dunaway turned down the lead role, while Shirley MacLaine wanted it. Raquel Welch was also considered.
