Trivia / Nomeansno

  • Creator Backlash: The album Dance of the Headless Bourgeoisie took a more avant-garde and experimental approach, with some of the band's longest songs to date, and reactions were somewhat mixed upon its release. John Wright later said of the record, "[it] was a very obscure album and not our greatest effort".
  • Development Hell: All Roads Lead to Ausfahrt had been worked on for over two years before finally seeing release.
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: Though the band are cult legends in their native Canada, they found their greatest success in Europe, particularly countries like Germany, The Czech Republic and Poland, and toured there regularly.
  • He Also Did: In addition to music, John is an accomplished homebrewer, and has hosted an instructional video on brewing your own beer in his “Johnny Hanson” persona. Canadian brewery Trou du Diable released a Hanson Brothers-branded “Punk Rauch” beer (a kind of smoked lager) in 2014, and he currently owns and operates a brewpub.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: Sex Mad and Small Parts Isolated And Destroyed have not seen any physical reprints or streaming since their original releases. While they've been regularly uploaded to file-sharing sites and the like, it can be a bit of a search to try and find physical copies of these records.
  • Schedule Slip: After two decades of releasing at least one album every couple of years, the band's output slowed down after the release of One in 2000, with the next album All Roads Lead to Ausfahrt coming out in 2006. The band released two EPs in 2010 before calling it quits in 2016.
  • Similarly Named Works: The Hanson Brothers (named after a trio of characters in the movie Slap Shot) are not to be confused with the pop band Hanson, whose members are all brothers with that surname.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • One was originally set to be the second Mr. Right and Mr. Wrong album, but the Wright brothers felt that the style fit more of a Nomeansno album.
    • All Roads Lead to Ausfahrt was originally going to be named Nihilism For Dummies before they realized that would probably trigger a lawsuit from the publishers of the real For Dummies book series.
