  • Dummied Out: In the folder containing preview images of the challenge stages, there lies an image of an early version of Acorn Plains that looks drastically different from its final incarnation.
  • Rule 34 – Creator Reactions: While more a reaction to the general fanart, both Safe For Work and otherwise, Nintendo's official response when asked about Bowsette and related characters was, "Concerning the drawings and other things uploaded to the Internet, we have no comment." Though the fact that they would later state that only Toadette can use the Super Crown indicates that they were not a fan.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Miis were originally planned to be playable in the story mode. In the final game and the Deluxe Updated Re-release, they are limited to the bonus modes.
    • There are Dummied Out Yoshi drums for the Jungle theme, indicating Yoshi was originally playable in the Soda Jungle stages, which is not the case in the final game. This would be reused for Super Mario Maker 2.
    • Dummied Out textures show that a green Baby Yoshi was planned to be added to Deluxe at one point, which was scrapped.
    • This trailer for New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe shows Mario making playable appearances in New Super Luigi U levels alongside his bro. In the final game, Mario is still disallowed from appearing in NSLU content, as he was in the original release.
  • Working Title: The original Wii U game's internal project name is RedPro. Deluxe's internal project name is RedPro-S.
