• Actor Allusion:
  • Mike and the 'bots had a lot of fun referring to Peter Graves's role as the host of Biography.
  • They also make a joke or two about Dick Sargent’s time as the second Darrin on Bewitched.
  • They reference Keenan Wynn's appearance as the guard obsessed with "preverts" in Dr. Strangelove.
• Approval of God: Robert S. Fiveson admits he considered getting the call that the rights to his movie had been picked up for the MST3K treatment the lowest point of his career "for about five minutes", then he realized it would introduce the movie to a new audience. However, he was still leery about the episode itself until it reached the smoking crotch gag. Then he was fully won over.
• Dawson Casting: The Evil Space Children, which is played for laughs. As with other times involving child characters, they're played by other cast/crew members; in this case, Mike (Buddy), Bridget Jones (Darlene), and Paul Chaplin (Scooter).
• Vindicated by Cable: Appearing on MST3K had the effect of bringing the movie more into the mainstream and viewers of this particular episode wrote to Fiveson for support and encouragement in his lawsuit against the producers of The Island (2005).
