Trivia / Muppet*Vision 3D

Go To

  • Blooper: During the firetruck shot, Sweetums is both on the film and in the audience.
  • Colbert Bump: Disney's big Muppet push throughout the early 2010s caused the show to see a surge in attendance for a few years.
  • Harpo Does Something Funny: Puppeteer Rick Lyon revealed that the entire beginning of the preshow, in which four construction workers played by Frank Oz, Richard Hunt, Lyon, and David Rudman, put up the signs, was only loosely scripted but the dialogue was completely improvised. This is why Oz's character (only referred to as "Boss") doesn't have a name and why Lyon's character is called Rick. He was also surprised the "Up, Chuck/Upchuck" gag made it in.
  • Meaningful Release Date: It was released May 16, 1991, exactly a year after Jim Henson's death.
  • The Other Darrin: Two instances:
    • While Sweetums was still voiced by Richard Hunt, he was performed in-suit by Jim Henson's son, John, who would take over the role until his unexpected passing.
    • There is one line from Waldorf, when he asks Statler if he is enjoying the fireworks, that is voiced by Dave Goelz. All the other Waldorf lines were voiced by Jim Henson.
  • Posthumous Credit: Despite dying one year before the attraction opened, Jim Henson is given a credit as a director and Muppet performer, having managed to complete production before his death.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • The film attraction was originally intended to be the first portion of an entire Muppet Studios land in the park that would include an elaborate dark ride, but the death of Jim Henson and Disney's subsequent falling out with the Hensons due to legal disputes led to the project falling apart.
    • With the area around Muppet*Vision 3D being renamed "Muppet Courtyard" as part of the Hollywood Studios expansion, it seemed that these plans (or something similar) would finally come to fruition, but then Disney decided to retheme the area as Grand Avenue, using the reworked remaining parts of the former Streets of America including the courtyard (which is now called Grand Park).
    • Muppet*Vision 3D was originally slated to replace Disneyland's Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln in 1991, but Henson's death and Disney's subsequent falling out with the Henson family in the months afterward prevented this from happening, plus guests pitched a fit over the notion of their beloved Mr. Lincoln being replaced a second time. Disney and the Hensons eventually patched things up and the show opened with Disney's California Adventure in 2001, where it played on-and-off until its permanent closure in 2014.
    • When the ride received a digital makeover in 2009, there were also plans to have an newly updated pre-show alongside it. For unknown reasons, the idea was canned and the pre-show remains unchanged (bar a brief update to include a segment with Constantine to promote Muppets Most Wanted in 2014 and a new one in 2021 promoting Muppets Haunted Mansion).
