Trivia / Miracle of Sound

  • Colbert Bump: His first big hit, "Commander Shepard" got widespread attention from an "official music video" being featured on the YouTube channel Mandalore Movies who was popular among the Mass Effect fandom. The video neared a million views before Mandalore's channel was taken down. Gavin thanked him in the Press X To Rock liner notes. It's since been read out by Jennifer Hale and Mark Meer, the voices of Shepard for that series.
  • Creator Backlash: He's expressed disliking some of the older songs from the project, especially for how blatant they were in referencing the video games they were inspired by. When Laura from Jim Sterling's podcast was responding to the question of her favorite song of his, he said, "Don't say Commander Shepard. I fucking hate that song." As of his April 8, 2021 update, his distaste for Commander Shepard has waned a bit. All the same, however, Gavin is resistant to remaking it and other "meme" songs like it, as he views those songs as "a moment in time", and he is no longer in that place in his creative headspace.
  • Creator's Oddball: According to a comment on "Machine Hearts", he doesn't normally click with anime-style stuff and NieR: Automata was an exception.
  • Covered Up: A lot of people believe that 'Valhalla Calling' was written by Peyton Parrish and a few have even accused Gavin of falsely claiming ownership to the song, despite the fact that Parrish's version clearly states in the title that it's a cover, enough so that Gavin made a video pointing out that he released it first. Others claim it's an actual ancient Norse chant, despite the fact that it rhymes perfectly in modern English, which an old Norse chant would not. Gav actually released a short explaining this and asking simply to be credited on any future covers. In 2024, Gavin got sufficiently frustrated with this and Peyton not crediting him that he made a public statement asking him to stop; when asked why this was public rather than private, he explained that a private message had been tried first and nothing had changed.
  • Fake Irish: Gets accused of this a lot, despite being an Irishman in Ireland, people keep saying his accent sounds fake. Having a very sing-song Cork accent doesn't help.
  • Fake Nationality: He pretends to be Serbian when singing from the point of view of the Bellic cousins.
  • Magnum Opus Dissonance: Gavin has noted that songs which he just throws together for a quick joke (e.g. "Wigglesticks", "Doorfighter", "Beneath The Black Flag"), tend to perform significantly better than songs which he puts a lot of effort into and is really proud of (e.g. "The Best of Us", "Dream of the Sky", "Fires Fade"). Note that the latter are still received well, but the joke songs get spread around via word-of-mouth much easier and quicker.
  • Milestone Celebration: For his 100th video, Gavin completely re-recorded The New Black Gold.
  • Money, Dear Boy: Understandably, he's had to take some projects from upcoming games due to his need to keep himself afloat.
  • Promoted Fanboy: His song Cries of The Dead World made it into Wasteland 2 as the ending credits. He has also been recognized by EA and Ubisoft, asked to make Take it Back and Digital Shadows respectively. He collaborated with Marcin PrzybyƂowicz, of The Witcher 3 fame, on the soundtrack for Seven: The Days Long Gone.
  • Similarly Named Works: His Game of Thrones-inspired song "Only Us" has the same name as a song from Dear Evan Hansen.
