Trivia / Megan Thee Stallion

Go To

  • Creator Breakdown: Traumazine was released in an extremely difficult circumstances in her life; with songs detailing her reaction to the death of her grandmother and mother as well as the legal battles against her label and rapper Tory Lanez who was alleged (and later found guilty) to have shot her. Megan even acknowledged in an interview that writing "Traumazine" feel very therapeutic and is the first body of work that she becomes much more vulnerable in her art.
  • Doing It for the Art: "Cobra", which is the first single she entirely self-funded, and has Megan openly sing about her depression and anxiety following the death of her parents and her breakup with Pardison Fontaine.
  • Executive Meddling:
    • In 2020, Megan sued her record label 1501 Certified Entertainment. According to her, the label was keeping her from releasing any new music or shooting music videos for some of her more popular songs off of Fever after she asked to renegotiate her contract with the company. This was all enabled by her signing contract which was predatory in nature and heavily biased in favor of the label. It was only after she signed with Jay-Z's Roc Nation and got a team of lawyers she was able to rectify the situation.
    • A year later, 1501 tried to block the remix of BTS' "Butter" featuring her from being released, asking for a fee of 100,000 USD for the label (none of it for Megan); this despite concessions from BTS, BIGHIT and BTS' legal team offering (unusually for them) a share in royalties for the label. Only after a document from Megan asking for an emergency ruling against the label was filed and made public (days before the scheduled release), the remix of "Butter" was cleared for release via an emergency order. According to the document, the only reason given by 1501 was that they "did not believe" that the remix "would be good for her career as a recording artist".
  • Fan Community Nicknames: “Hotties.”
  • Life Imitates Art: In June 2020, she released the track "Girls In The Hood", where she raps in the chorus "These bitches mad mad, they wanna hurt me". This proved to be horrifyingly accurate just a few weeks later, when she was shot in both of her feet by rapper/singer Tory Lanez at a party.
