- The same year this game came out, Data East released their own Marvel fighting game, Avengers in Galactic Storm. While Marvel Super Heroes ended up being the far more successful of the two, Galactic Storm was the first fighting game to use an Assist Character feature, something that would later become a hallmark of the Marvel vs. Capcom series.
- Also published the same year was Justice League Task Force, a DC Comics fighting game from Sunsoft, Acclaim and Blizzard Entertainment. Once again, there was simply no contest between the two, with Marvel Super Heroes easily emerging as the bigger hit.
