No Export for You: The Famicom port, despite being one of the most well-known ports, was never released outside of Japan for unknown reasons (a fate it shared with the Famicom ports of Dig Dug and Galaxian). Much later, it would be officially released as part of the Namco Museum ArchivesCompilation Re-release.
Port Overdosed: In Japan, there were numerous versions of the game released for a variety of different consoles and home computers. At least fourteen Mappy conversions were made throughout the 80's alone, many of them coming from Dempa- a company Namco partnered with to produce computer ports of its arcade games. Of the pre-Namco Museum ports, the Famicom version is considered one of the more well-known ports, especially overseas.
Blooper: Valkyrie's character model is noticeably missing her braid.
Corpsing: Mappy's voice actor cracks up in Episode 12 when saying "Diglas D. Douglas". They ended up leaving in the failed takes and animating them.
Creator's Oddball: Out of the four primary people credited for the cartoon, the Kris Straub credited for voicework and writing is, indeed, the same Kris Straub behind such web horror series as Candle Cove and LOCAL58.
Screwed by the Network: Despite positive feedback and a decent audience, Mappy was canceled by Bandai Namco — along with the rest of ShiftyLook — when they decided to put all their effort into rebooting Wonder Momo. The series creators were forced to post a message stating that their years of hard work were all practically a contest for Namco to decide who they could make the most money off of a reboot of — they claimed to be happy about it, but it's painfully obvious that the fans and creators alike cursed Namco that day.
