The success of ''Film/AliceInWonderland2010'' helped get this film off the ground with Creator/Angelina Jolie signing up after (and Creator/TimBurton, who directed Alice, ''Alice'', was slated to direct this one too at one point), but the films were actually conceived around the same time, and the subsequent trend of Film/DisneyLiveActionRemakes owes as much or more to ''Maleficent'', since '' Alice'' isn't based on the its namesake animated Disney film film, but rather more of a sequel.spin-off or sequel than a remake or remaining, etc.
