Trivia / Maho Girls Pretty Cure!
aka: Mahou Tsukai Pretty Cure

Go To

  • All-Star Cast: Possibly the biggest in Pretty Cure’s long run. Almost all the main casts are voiced by famous voice actors.
  • Completely Different Title: The Albanian and Vietnamese dubs change the title to Beautiful Witch Warriors.
  • Creator Backlash: In an interview near the end of Star★Twinkle Pretty Cure’s run, Isao Murayama (the series coordinator for both this season and Star☆Twinkle) expressed that he was dissatisfied with how little characterization he gave the villains in this season compared to the heroines, and sought to amend this by giving deeper character writing for the Star☆Twinkle villains.
  • Flip-Flop of God: Various staff interviews have given contradictory answers about Mofurun’s Ambiguous Gender Identity and how much their stances on it have shifted. Some staff have claimed that they initially perceived Mofurun’s gender as simply Mofurun and she only became a girl when it was decided to make her a Pretty Cure in The Movie. Said movie’s director Yuta Tanaka stated this is what was told to him by the TV staff, and that the film staff decided to run with it by designing Cure Mofurun to be somewhat androgynous. The official Pretty Store Twitter account includes Mofurun among the lineup of female mascots, but also clarified Mofurun can be a boy, girl, or neither. Series head writer Isao Murayama has said that he always envisioned Mofurun as a girl, and that time constraints prevented him from including a scene where Mofurun says, "Mofurun is a girl-mofu!" in response to Mirai having always thought of Mofurun as a boy.
  • Market-Based Title: TOEI's official English title for this show is Witchy Pretty Cure!, and many agree that it's a more fitting title than Maho Girls.
  • Milestone Celebration:
    • Downplayed; the 600th episode of the Pretty Cure franchise is only indicated by a sign Haa-chan is holding after the episode's On the Next segment.
    • A proper example comes from the announcement of Maho Girls 2, which is part of the franchise's 20th anniversary alongside fellow sequel Power of Hope ~Adult Pretty Cure 23~ and mainline season Hirogaru Sky! Pretty Cure.
  • Playing Against Type: Benigio is yet another villain role for Kikuko Inoue, what's even more amusing as that we get to hear Kikuko Inoue talk like a gyaru (naturally rendered as a Valley Girl accent in the fansubs).
  • Real-Life Relative: Kikuko Inoue voices Benigio and her daughter Honoka Inoue has a minor role as a female student in episode 39.
  • Sequel Gap: Maho Girls finished its run in 2017, and Maho Girls 2 is being set for a 2024 release.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • According to this, Mirai's family would have been originally descended from magicians, but they decided it would be better to make her a normal person. The design of Mirai's grandmother is probably an artifact of this concept.
    • Murayama had plans to include a character named Ryūichi Shiina, a popular classmate of Mirai’s who would have been a Chick Magnet that she and Liko were unfazed by, and would act as The Rival to the latter, but for undisclosed reasons he only ever appeared in the background. He was specifically slated to have roles in episodes 11, 13, 35, and 39, and the character designer Emiko Miyamoto did complete his design for promotional materials, which can be seen during episode 11note . He was also one of the votable options for the NHK popularity poll of Pretty Cure side characters (Mofurun being the winner of the number one rank in the poll, incidentally).
  • You Sound Familiar: Mofurun’s voice actress Ayaka Saitou was previously the voice of Minori Hyūga in Futari wa Pretty Cure Splash★Star.
