  • Approval of God: Madness Day is a time-honored Newgrounds festival where many fans of the series submit Madness-themed artwork, fanfiction, and fan animations. It is not uncommon for Krinkels himself to directly endorse fans who make awesome content. In fact, during Madness Day 2020, he streamed himself reacting to animations and artwork and was very receptive to other people's creations, going so far as to give each and every submission he reviewed a 5-star rating on Newgrounds.
  • Ascended Fan Nickname: "Doc", the nickname that popped up back when he was known only as 2BDamned, has been acknowledged by Krinkels in the description of DISSENTER ("He's not even a real doctor, why do people keep calling him Doc?") and is used in MADNESS: Project Nexus 2.
  • Colbert Bump: The Friday Night Funkin' Game Mod known as The Tricky Mod has brought the series new fans (both youths & adults) and further increased Tricky's popularity. Krinkels has also approved of the mod's existence and even joked that it was canon.
  • Creator Backlash: Krinkels regrets making Tricky Madness 2, which features things like Jesus graphically cannibalizing Tricky.
  • Creator's Favorite: Krinkels said here that Sanford was probably his favorite character.
  • Creator's Pest: Krinkels didn't like the Sheriff much, which is why he died in Avenger and never came back.
  • Development Hell: As of its release in January 2019, Expurgation had been in the making for around seven years due to being sidelined in favor of Project Nexus 2.
  • Dummied Out:
    • There's one detail in "Aggregation" that exists but that cannot be seen while watching the animation. While looking at the Flash files of the episode, we can see that the Mag Agent: V3's head and mask are actually two separate assets that are "glued" together during the animation. Looking at the head's asset reveals that V3 actually does have a facial cross like everyone else, but the mask hides it and the upper part of the cross is unusually short.
    • Madness: Project Nexus contains a few dummied out weapons, such as stats for melee weapons called the "severed head" and the "urinal".
  • Flip-Flop of God: The mini-series starring Deimos in Hell is called Deimos Adventure on Krinkels's Website/Youtube playlist, but is instead called Dedmos Adventure in the video that compiles all of the mini-episodes.
  • Follow the Leader: Bunnykill, Maximum Ninja, Xionic Madness, REALM, with several more fan series inspired by and even use the style of Madness Combat. MC itself is a descendant of stick figure fighting animations (Xiao Xiao, mainly).
  • God Never Said That: Contrary to popular belief that Jesus' inclusion in Madness Combat was to be a low-brow attempt to dunk on Christians, Krinkles' real reason for including Jesus was because he thought it was funny for a guy associated with pacifism and non-violence to be involved in a cartoon exclusively about violence.
  • He Also Did: Krinkels also took part in the Multi-Animator Project for Team Fabulous 2 Reanimated.
  • Hey, It's That Sound!:
    • Dedicated Counter-Strike 1.X players will probably recognize certain pained grunts as well as some gunfire sounds.
    • The noises made by swords have been used in Roblox for a classic item known as the Linked Sword.
  • Newbie Boom: While not as big as what Friday Night Funkin' did for Pico, The Tricky Mod has had this effect with various people who were never aware of Madness Combatnote  to discover the series and be interested in checking it out.
  • Portmanteau Series Nickname: MadCom. Unlike most instances of this trope, this one is commonly used by the western community.
  • Promoted Fanboy:
    • Jose Ortiz, aka "Mindchamber" is long-time a Madness fan who worked on many tributes in the form of games, animations and 3D models inspired by the series. He is now one of Team Madness working on MADNESS: Project Nexus 2 as a consultant and contributing artist.
    • A Madness fan and animator called Cethic sometimes contributed to the episodes' arts since Expurgation, however due to a Role-Ending Misdemeanor, Krinkels has cut ties with her.
    • Since Expurgation, a Madness fan named CturiX is taking care of the episodes' sound effects.
    • Kelzad, a Madness fan-animator and creator of the REALM Series, made the design of Scrapeface in An Experiment.
  • Role-Ending Misdemeanor:
    • Cethic, who contributed redesigned sprites of the characters, props and weapons to Krinkels as part of his crew since Expurgation and the Deimos Adventure series, came under fire for events depicted in a confessional that she later put out. As a result, Krinkels has officially cut ties with her, and removed her contributions to his sprite library away from future animations.
    • After it came to light that Fleetwire, who worked on songs and almost worked on sprites for the series, groomed Cethic (another person who worked on Madness Combat), he was barred from contributing to Madness Combat ever again.
  • Sequel Gap: Present throughout the entire series, but the longest one was between Abrogation and Expurgation. Krinkels stated multiple times that Episode 11 was a constant work-in-progress, but that other ventures such as MADNESS: Project Nexus 2 limited the amount of time he had to work on it. Abrogation was released in June 2011, Expurgation was eventually released in January 2019.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Early on when Krinkels was working on Expurgation, it was planned that the Auditor absorbing Tricky's corpse in the previous episode would result in a fusion creature looking like the Smile.jpg creepypasta. While the fusion idea was dropped, the design of the creature (named "Demon") is used in the non-canon video Incident111A, which came out years before Expurgation.
    • Deimos's new rock form originally had a different design. He had less cracks in the skin and had a strap connecting his rock jaw from behind his head. His incomplete design can be viewed here, on the left.
    • 2BDamned's mask was going to be a bit different. It didn't have a headlamp and it had bigger lenses, which weren't colored. In his final design, his mask has thinner lenses that are tinted in red. His incomplete design can be seen here.
    • The fictional lever-action shotgun used by Deimos in CHASE.fla, originally had a blockier design, but the program Krinkels was using crashed before he could save the shotgun, forcing him to re-draw the weapon. Both designs can be seen here.
    • During the animation's development, the scientist from An Experiment originally had a darker coat.
  • Word of God: Krinkels sometimes answers questions about the Madness Combat universe on his CuriousCat account, though some of the answers are obvious jokes.
  • Working Title: When An Experiment was in production, the animation was called Ultimatefear.flaNote .
