• Reality Subtext: According to the DVD extras, the play (and thus the movie) was written after Perry's mother passed away due to complications of diabetes.
• Underage Casting: Kimberly supposedly gave birth to Byron. Shannon Kane is only a year and a half older than Bow Wow.
• You Look Familiar: In the scene of Shirley's funeral, the entire Gospel choir at the church is comprised of the cast from the stage play version of the film, but are for the most part, just ghost extras.
