Trivia / LEGO Worlds

  • What Could Have Been: The Early Access/beta version was conceived as a true Wide-Open Sandbox where you can build, customize characters, or discover treasures. However, in March 2017, plenty of characters, tools and items in the beta version were locked under "Quests" and required gold bricks to unlock them. The May 2017 update would later include Sandbox Mode, serving as an Author's Saving Throw for fans of the beta version of the game.
    • The beta version had Paleontologist and Explorer as playable characters available from the start, before they were replaced by Astronaut and Intergalactic Girl respectively.
    • Before LEGO Worlds, there were several projects that were considered by different developers, but they either never got released, or never even made it past the early development stages.
      • The LEGO Group and Minecraft developer Mojang worked on a prototype sandbox game for about a year in 2011, but those plans fell through for unknown reasons.
      • Life Of George, an augmented reality LEGO game which involved an app and LEGO bricks which was released in 2011, led to some experimentation by developer Funcom. One concept, LEGO Elements, was meant to be a LEGO brick take on Minecraft, designed for tablets and with the ability to scan real-world LEGO brick structures into the game. However, the LEGO Elements concept was scrapped, causing Funcom to focus on the short-lived LEGO Minifigures Online.
      • Initially, LEGO Worlds was going to focus just on building with LEGO bricks, similar to LEGO Digital Designer and later Bricklink Studio, but during development, Traveller's Tales decided to include playable minifigures similar to their previous LEGO games.
