Trivia / Le Gendarme et les Gendarmettes

• Died During Production: Jean Girault, the longtime director of the franchise, died of tuberculosis while filming Le Gendarme et les Gendarmettes in 1982. His assistant Tony Aboyantz finished the film.
• The Original Darrin: Claude Gensac came back to play Josépha Cruchot in this film after being replaced by Maria Mauban in Le Gendarme et les extra-terrestres (the previous film).
• What Could Have Been: While being panned by critics (as usual in the franchise), the film was a smash hit in France the year it came out. The producers considered a seventh film despite the death of director Jean Girault (some sources evoked Japan as a possible setting), but the death of Louis de Funès in 1983 put an end to their hopes.
