Trivia / Labyrinth of Evil

Go To

  • First Appearance: The book contains the first reference to Darth Plagueis in any Star Wars media.
  • Inspiration for the Work When Luceno first got custodianship of the project, he knew the endpoint, but was understandably unsure how exactly to get to there. While on vacation in Mexico, he saw a fellow traveler reading Tom Clancy’s The Hunt for Red October. This inspired the idea of the Jedi hunting for Sidious.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • For the prelude to the Battle of Coruscant, James Luceno originally intended to have Chancellor Palpatine whisked like George W. Bush in Air Force One during the 9/11, as he initially believed that the battle would mostly take place in the ground. However, he dropped the idea when George Lucas told him that the battle would be taking place in space, suggesting instead to have Palpatine sequestered a la Dick Cheney by the Secret Service in a hardened bunker during the attacks.
    • As revealed by The Essential Reader's Companion, Asajj Ventress was meant to appear and be killed off in the novel, therefore explaining why she didn't appear in Revenge of the Sith, but the idea was dropped. Instead, she went to appear on the Star Wars: Obsession comic book series, where she was betrayed by Dooku and went into exile Faking the Dead. Ten years after Labyrinth of Evil was published, Asajj Ventress was killed off in Dark Disciple, a novel part of the new Star Wars Expanded Universe established by Disney.
