• Box Office Bomb: Budget, $60 million. Box office, $36,763,355 (domestic), $108,431,355 (worldwide).
• California Doubling: The campus in the film is called "Leland University". The actual location was the University of California at Berkeley, whose sports rival is Stanford University, in Palo Alto, California, which was named after Leland Stanford.
• Completely Different Title: The Chinese release has the... very peculiar title of Son of Devil. (It certainly applies to one particular scene.)
• Creator's Favorite Episode: Out of all the films Ivan Reitman has made with Arnold Schwarzenegger, he has cited this as not his best, but his favourite.
• Executive Veto: An early cut of the film ended with an abortion scene that was nixed by the studio after the subject was deemed to be "too politically sensitive." Extensive reshoots were required to make the final film work.
• Fake Nationality: Notably averted in Arnold's case, as Alex is stated to be Austrian.
• Playing Against Type: Arnold Schwarzenegger, generally known for his roles as action heroes, plays a scientist in this movie.
• Reality Subtext: As it happens, before he got into acting and bodybuilding, Arnold wanted to be a scientist.
• Throw It In!: Reddin's Groin Attack on Hesse was actually Emma Thompson accidentally doing the same to Arnold Schwarzenegger. Since it was perfectly in-character, it stayed in.
• Working Title: Was announced as Oh, Baby early on.
