- Approval of God: Steven Gould approved of the film's changes.
- Creator Backlash: Jamie Bell hated working on the film.
- Romance on the Set: Hayden Christensen and Rachel Bilson fell in love while filming the film. They would remain a couple until splitting up in 2017.
- Fatal Method Acting: Set dresser David Ritchie was crushed to death by frozen debris as an exterior set was being dismantled.
- Star-Derailing Role: While Hayden Christensen had been the subject of much mockery for his performances in the Star Wars prequels, he still had just enough credibility from Shattered Glass and a few other lower-profile films to still get major roles in the years that followed. The underwhelming critical and audience response to this film (and, to a lesser extent, the previous year's Awake) finally derailed his career as a leading man completely.
- Stillborn Franchise: Sequels were planned, but although the film performed moderately well at the box office despite unfavourable critical reception, it has been put on Development Hell. The closest to it would happen in 2018 with the TV series Impulse.
- Technology Marches On: Inverted. In the book, David had to keep videos of places he hasn't been to in a while in order to teleport to them. Here David just uses photographs posted all over his apartment.
- Those Two Actors: While not appearing on-screen with either, Kristen Stewart got two: Jamie Bell who she was in Undertow (2004) with and Max Thieriot who she was in Catch That Kid with—also in 2004.
- What Could Have Been: Tom Sturridge and Teresa Palmer were considered for the roles of David and Millie respectively.
