• What Could Have Been: It's entirely possible he wasn't the first choice for the ultra patriotic "Real American" gimmick. Apparently, originally it would have been NXT wrestler Derrick Bateman, who made a few "USA Guy" promos online (and even know, his Twitter background◊ is him in patriotic ring gear with the words "Conservative with his Words, Liberal with his Fists.") It would seem the character was tweaked and given to Swagger instead once Bateman fell out of favor with the company. (He was later released.)
  • Apparently, Swagger as the "Real American" was supposed to be a babyface, with Sergeant Slaughter as his manager instead of Dutch "Zeb Colter" Mantell.
  • And before his arrest, Swagger was slated to win the World Heavyweight Championship from Alberto Del Rio at Wrestlemania.
