Trivia / Identity V

  • "Blind Idiot" Translation: A lot of real-world names of historical, mythological, etc. people and places that feature in the characters' stories got garbled in the translation to Chinese and then back to English. These include:
    • Names from The Mabinogion in Eli's Letter: Blodeuwedd (Brooke Rose), Lleu Llaw Gyffes (Raven Jefferson), and Grown Pebr (Grove Pepper). Gwydion came through relatively unscathed as Giddon.
    • The Native American tribe that Kevin lived with are the Sioux, not Su.
    • Margaretha's character in the Golden Rose Theatre mystery story is named for Clotho, one of the Fates from Classical Mythology. It is written as Kroto in the game, though some of the story parts spell it as Clotho, other issues notwithstanding.
    • The name of the manor in the Chinese and Japanese versions of the game is "Eurydice", a reference to the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. The name is translated to "Oletus" in the English version (possibly due to the Chinese pronunciation of Eurydice being oh-li-di-se).
  • No Export for You: Norton Campbell's "McDonald's" skin, Vera Nair's Douyin and KFC skins, along with many others are currently exclusive to the Chinese version of the game.
    • The Death Note crossover is exclusive to the global version.
    • The LINE crossover is exclusive to Japan, although players can simply change the language of the game to Japanese to access the crossover.
  • Production Posse: How many members of the stage cast have appeared in the Tsukiuta/Tsukipro series from the same producer? There's...
    • Agata Goki (Fan Wujiu, Six Gravity's Mutsuki Hajime);
    • Suzuki Yota (Victor Grantz, Six Gravity's Kisaragi Koi);
    • Igarashi Keisuke (Joseph Desaulniers, Hokekyo-kun (Yayoi Haru's bird));
    • Hirai Yuki (Aesop Carl, Procellarum's Fuzuki Kai and SQS's original character Romeo);
    • Kawakami Eriko (Helena Adams, Fluna's Momosaki Hina);
    • Tanaka Toshihiko (Freddy Riley, Quell's Izumi Shuu);
    • Seto Keita (Mike Morton, SolidS' Okui Tsubasa);
    • Tachibana Ryou (Lucky Guy, Growth's Sakuraba Ryota);
    • Tanaka Kouhei (Kevin Ayuso, Rock Down's Amaha Reiji);
    • Ishikawa Ryutaro (Kreacher Pierson, the teacher in Alivestage's School Revolution);
    • Hino Arata (Hastur, Alivestage's Izanagi);
    • Isono Dai (Andrew Kreiss, Tsukino Empire's Akino);
    • ...and last but not least, Mizuki Chiba (Eli Clark), who sings the theme songs for the stage play, is the voice actor for Tsukipro's Mikaze Roa.
    • In addition to all of these actors, SQS choreographer J.U.N. also does the choreography for Identity V.
    • Movista has also produced an original series called Kuro to Shiro of which, out of 16 cast members, 7 have been in both Tsukipro and Identity V, and only one was in neither. And guess who sings the theme song...
  • Shown Their Work: So many of the characters are well-researched from history and legends in real life.
    • It accurately names Jack the Ripper's known victims and gets down Yidhra's origins and abilities.
    • Hastur [Feaster] is inspired by the novel The King in Yellow.
    • Eli [Seer]'s story is inspired by the legend of Lleu Llaw Gyffes and Blodeuwedd, from the Mabinogion. This became confused for international players when his letter mistransliterated their names into Raven Jefferson and Brooke Rose...
  • What Could Have Been: Edgar Valden was created for the fan-made character competition and his original backstory would have had him painting with his own blood, growing "discontent" with it, and going to the manor to get new blood. The idea was scrapped by the developers who deemed it too gruesome. With that being said, Edgar's deductions do imply that he may have painted some of his paintings with someone's blood.
    • Vera Nair [Perfumer]'s Caged Butterfly skin was originally named Madame Butterfly.
    • It was originally planned for the Bungo Stray Dogs crossover to include skins for Doppo Kunikida and Akiko Yosano, portrayed by Orpheus [Novelist] and Emily Dyer [Doctor] respectively. The skins were canceled after they caused a controversy in the Chinese playerbase.
