- Executive Meddling: Woody Allen wanted to shoot the film in 16mm to give the feel of a documentary to the viewer, but TriStar was against this, and made him shoot in 35mm.
- Follow the Leader: The Edward Burns film Sidewalks of New York was a stealth remake of this film.
- The Other Marty: Juliette Lewis replaced Emily Lloyd. Lloyd was originally cast in the role of Rain, and footage was shot. Woody Allen decided it wasn't working, and replaced her with Lewis.
- Reality Subtext:
- The film was shot during Woody and Mia's breakup and the marriage of Woody and Soon-Yi. Farrow even pointed out later the scenes that were before her finding out and after.
- In a bit of a Take That!, Lysette Anthony showed she didn't need a Same Language Dub that she had in Krull.
- Typecasting: In 1992 Juliette Lewis was better known as a precocious, provocative young woman type - Cape Fear had been released the year before.
- What Could Have Been:
- Gwyneth Paltrow and Kristy Swanson were considered for Rain.
- Jane Fonda was originally offered the role of Sally. However, talks broke down when Fonda and Woody Allen disagreed on the aesthetics of the character.
