• Write What You Know:
  • Mao's In-Universe cell phone novel "House of the Sun" (under the penname "Kuukai") is basically her living with Hiro, but changing their names (e.g. Mao to Kaoru, Hiro to Takeshi). Hiro doesn't realize this, mistakes the kanji for "Kuukai" as "Sorami," and thinks the novel is authored by his co-worker Sugimoto because she is rumored to writes novels and he feels as though "Kaoru" is similar to Sugimoto; in reality, Sugimoto is merely a fan of Mao's novel.
  • The author based the manga on his own parents upon asking the question of whether they felt their age difference (as they share the same difference of age as Hiro and Mao); initially they both said no, but in private his mom (who's the younger party) stated that she does feel the difference, so the author created the manga based on that situation.
• Write Who You Know: According to the Volume 9 extras, the author Taamo based Hiro and Mao's age gap on her own parents, who are 7 years apart too. In particular, she states, she wrote the story based on her mother's self-conscious feelings about being younger than her husband.
