Trivia / Hole

Go To

  • Creator Backlash: While Courtney doesn't hate Nobody's Daughter, she does regret reviving Hole without getting its original 1990s lineup back together and generally feels that Nobody's Daughter doesn't really work as a Hole album. In hindsight, she wishes she would have released it as a solo album instead.
  • Cut Song: The song "Rock Star" was supposed to be on the album Live Through This, but was cut not long before the album's release because of the line "How'd you like to be Nirvana/So much fun to be Nirvana/A barrel of laughs to be Nirvana/Say you'd rather die, yeah like to try" (the album was released not long after Kurt Cobain's suicide). Funnily enough, the song was replaced with the song "Olympia", but the name on the album's cover wasn't changed as artwork for the album had already been printed.
  • Development Hell: Celebrity Skin had been planned for release as far back as 1996, but scheduling issues and a long recording process led to it not seeing the light of day until the fall of 1998.
  • Promoted Fangirl: Love managed to convince Kim Gordon to produce the first Hole album by sending her a letter about how much they admired her work and in particular "the SST album"note , along with copies she owned of early SY singles.
  • Referenced by...:
    • Sludge metal band The Body named their 2016 album One Day You Will Ache Like I Ache after a line from "Doll Parts."
    • The film Jennifer's Body is an obvious Shout-Out to the song of the same name, though Love felt she wasn't properly compensated or consulted for approval of the usage of the song's title, and there was a legal scuffle about it.
  • What Could Have Been: The 1995 lineup played a show together in 2012 on a whim, while the Nobody's Daughter lineup was still touring as Hole. Courtney has been dropping hints that she wants to do something more with this for years, but still nothing concrete has happened for various reasons, a major one likely being how both Schemel and Auf der Maur have left the entertainment industry and returned to living private lives.
  • Working Title: Celebrity Skin was originally set to be named Holy War during recording. Sugar Coma was another proposed title.
  • Written for My Kids: Courtney allegedly walked into the recording studio and said that she wanted to write a song that she could sing to her daughter. What came out of the recording session was the delightfully candy-coated "Heaven Tonight".
