- Development Hell: Activision claimed that a new game in this series would be released in 2012. Assuming they were telling the truth, and the fact that no Guitar Hero game was released in 2012, it probably fell into this, and ended up being cancelled anyhow. This was later confirmed after the Guitar Hero Live announcement, with the proposed Guitar Hero 7 being cancelled due to the expensive controller design and the bad state of the project at the time.
- Dueling Works: With Rock Band 4.
- Friendly Rivalry: Judging from similarities in both games setlists (with many songs and/or artists being shared, whether through GHTV or Live mode), the competition with Rock Band 4 may be this.
- Franchise Killer: The series was on ice after Warriors of Rock didn't sell as well as hoped. This game was intended to revive the series, but its own poor sales and divisiveness among fans seems to have merely killed it even more conclusively.
- Prop Recycling: Since it is a series reboot, the game featured songs that were featured in prior installments.

- What Could Have Been: Instead of the 2x3 keys we see in the upcoming game, it could have been the new guitar controller from the proposed Guitar Hero 7, with 6 keys in place of the strum bar and the 5 frets.
- Also stated on the now-deleted Timeline page for Guitar Hero Live that there are a bunch of songs on the GHTV files. With GHTV shutting down in December 2018, some users managed to hack the cache and upload the unreleased songs to a new game called Clone Hero.
