- Box Office Bomb: Grossed $19 million on a $63 million budget.
- Executive Meddling: Director Stephen Kay clashed with Franchise Pictures over the tone of the remake. Kay wanted the film to be more of an "anti-revenge" movie akin to the original, something which Stallone wanted as well and why he signed up for the film, while Franchise Pictures wanted a more traditional Sylvester Stallone action picture.
- Real Life Writes the Hairstyle: The scene where Carter kills Brumby by shooting him in the back in a car park for trying to steal a video disc was the last scene to be filmed due to Sylvester Stallone's goatee beard being barely visible, and Michael Caine's hair being shorter than it was in his previous two scenes.
- Stillborn Franchise: There were plans to make a sequel, which never materialized.
- What Could Have Been: The original screenplay, which Sylvester Stallone signed on for, was much more violent, and focused more on the "revenge" element.
