  • Outdated by Canon: While highly well-researched and excellent at showing off intimate knowledge of Touhou Project as it was at the time, the first game was originally released in August 2010 before many later official Touhou works that would better cement parts of the characterization and worldbuilding. The Complete Box updates the library to account for details made clear after the games' original releases, but the interpretations in the main story understandably largely only work off of the information that existed at the time.
    • Nitori's Nice Girl portrayal and open appreciation for her friends are derived from her earliest canon depictions; Mountain of Faith notes her as timid, and says she thinks of humans and kappa as sworn friends. Following depictions of Nitori steadily dial up her rudeness, culminating in her Only in It for the Money personality from Hopeless Masquerade onward.
    • Akyuu is younger, frailer, and kinder than her later portrayal in the Forbidden Scrollery manga, her appearance and disposition being derived from the music discs and lorebooks instead. Particularly jarring as Complete Box adds Kosuzu to the narrative, who is lifted directly from said manga, including her dynamic with Akyuu.
    • Flandre's Creepy Child portrayal in the story and why she is locked in the basement are unique inventions which stem from the minimal elaboration in canon on the details surrounding Flandre's imprisonment and the nature of her sanity. Later media such as Foul Detective Satori and Sunken Fossil World make it clear that Flandre can break out of the basement at any time but largely sees no reason to, and that she's actually a relatively sane Blood Knight who is fully aware of what she's doing when she's "playing".
