Trivia / Gallagher

  • Adored by the Network: Rare was a weekend in the early 1990s where VH1 didn't run a marathon of his shows.
  • Creator Breakdown: His later shows were ... very different than his previous televised material. Patton Oswalt has stated there's probably "a whole James Ellroy novel" in exactly what changed him from his happy-go-lucky '80s persona to the bitter, racist, sexist homophobe he became. Gallagher himself expressed a bitter attitude over the fact he never had more than moderate success and was relatively broke with a bad heart, while comedians who have worked much less are more well-known. Even though his shows focused on a lot of political, social and even general life commentary, he's only known as a guy who smashes food with a hammer after a lengthy career, a career that was over for a while due to a bad heart.
