Trivia / Furious 7

Go To

  • B-Team Sequel: Justin Lin didn't direct this one, as the studio wanted to produce the film on an accelerated schedule for release in summer 2014. This would have required Lin to begin pre-production on the sequel while performing post-production on Fast & Furious 6, which he considered would affect the quality of the final product.
  • Breakaway Pop Hit: Not many $1 billion grossing movies can claim to have spawned a hit song bigger than the film itself: this one can, thanks to Wiz Khalifa's "See You Again." It reached the point where "See You Again" became the only thing related to Furious 7 to get a Kids' Choice Awards nomination in 2016 (which it won, of course), and became the most watched video on YouTube in July 2017, surpassing Psy's "Gangnam Style" (altough it was overtaken by "Despacito" shortly afterwards).
  • California Doubling: The Caucasus Mountains rescue scene was filmed in Colorado's Pikes Peak, and some of the scenes in Los Angeles were actually shot in Atlanta.
  • Character Outlives Actor: Paul Walker's character, Brian O'Conner, was ultimately retired from the franchise without killing him, in contrast to what many expected.
  • Dawson Casting: Lucas Black, now 32, returned to play his unaged character from Tokyo Drift (Nathalie Kelley and Bow Wow appeared through archive footage only).
  • Deleted Role: Gal Gadot originally reprised her role as Gisele and had filmed her scenes where Gisele takes Letty to the hospital after Letty was injured from her car explosion caused by Fenix from Fast & Furious, but her scenes were cut. Despite receiving top billing, she is only ever seen via archive footage and a photograph.
  • Development Hell: The movie was almost forced into this status due to the death of Paul Walker in November 2013 before being restarted in January 2014.
  • Died During Production: The film's future looked uncertain after the death of Paul Walker, in an auto accident, no less, in November 2013. After a hiatus, Vin Diesel announced in January 2014 that production was resumed, with the release date changed from July 2014 to April 2015. But as Walker was the main character, the only way they could write his character out of the plot seemed to be to either force him and his family into exile or kill him, the former strategy lying in contention with how the character is portrayed, and the latter by and large considered ghoulish. In February 2014, the producers decided to retire Walker's character by reworking the footage he'd shot before his death with the help of Walker's brothers and visual effects house WETA.
  • Dyeing for Your Art: Dwayne Johnson went through seven months of strict dieting and a heavily strength-emphasized workout plan for the role of Lucas Hobbs.
  • In Memoriam: The film is dedicated to Paul Walker. The final scene pans to a pure white sky, and eventually reads "FOR PAUL".
  • The Other Darrin:
    • Due to Paul Walker's death during filming, his two brothers Caleb and Cody were hired as stand-ins for Brian's remaining scenes.
    • In the Latin dub, Mireya Mendoza voices Elena Neves. This was due to the retirement of Christine Byrd.
    • For Sean and Twinkie (despite the latter's appearance consisting of archive footage) from Tokyo Drift, their original actors (Enrique Cervantes and Víctor Ugarte) were replaced by Carlo Vázquez and Moisés Iván Mora.
    • Andrés García dubbed Hector in the first film. But in this film, he was replaced by Mauricio Pérez.
  • Reality Subtext: Since Paul Walker died midway through filming, the film had to be rewritten to accommodate it. The films tagline is "One Last Ride", there's a scene at Han's funeral where the normally lighthearted Roman grimly tells Brian he can't take any more funerals, note  the recurring subplot about how Brian can't afford to go haring off around the world and risking his life when he has a family to take care of.
  • Real-Life Relative: Paul Walker's brothers Caleb and Cody served as his stand-ins.
  • Release Date Change: The film was originally scheduled for release on April 10, 2015. It's was brought forward a week to April 3, 2015. The official announcement in change of date was made in July 2014.
  • Stunt Double: The majority of Dwayne Johnson's stunts were actually performed by Tanoai Reed, his body double and cousin.
  • What Could Have Been:
  • Working Title: Fast and Furious 7.
