- Banned in China: The site is partially blocked in Indonesia (depending on which internet service provider you are using) and completely blocked in Malaysia, due to protests by helicopter moms in those countries.
- Follow the Leader: While it might not have been the first fanfiction website, it is definitely the most well known, FF.Net's popularity leading to sites like Wattpad (2006) and Archive of Our Own (2008), the latter of which was created in response to the site's purging of MSTs and Lemon Fics.
- Keep Circulating the Tapes: The robots.txt that the site used to use didn't allow for the Wayback Machine to hold onto a copy of any fics, so the only way to keep a deleted fic would either to save a copy (typically in HTML format) or to know the author of the fic in question. There was a way around that, but FFN caught onto that, too.note
