- Real Song Theme Tune: The opening and closing credits play over a recording of Dmitri Shostakovich's Prelude in D-flat major, Op.34 No.15.
- Recycled Script: The episode Jumping to Conclusions in which Howard and Hilda believe Ann is having an affair with Paul and try to be sympathetic to Martin by being overly physically affectionate towards him. This is reused from The Green Door, an episode of Esmonde and Larbey's previous sitcom The Good Life, in which Tom and Barbara come to believe Margo is having an affair and treat her husband Jerry in much the same way.

- Throw It In!: Most of the times when Paul is trying not to laugh at Martin's antics, it is real. It started as unintentional but they kept it because it adds depth to the characters' relationship.
