Trivia / Enrique Iglesias

Go To

  • Breakaway Pop Hit: His single "Bailamos" was written to tie in with Wild Wild West and escaped the commercial failure and backlash to the movie (as the song of the same name by Will Smith was nominated for a Razzie). The song went to number one on the charts, and got him signed by Interscope.
  • Breakthrough Hit: While it's commonly believed that "Escape" was this for the English market, he had already been put on the map with his Vivir album - even being one of the first nominees for Favorite Latin Artist at the American Music Awards, and won the award next year before crossing over.
  • Fake Nationality: He played an Argentinian masseuse who played acoustic guitar and wrote his own songs on How I Met Your Mother, and a Mexican in Once Upon a Time in Mexico. And also a Roman Emperor in a famous Pepsi commercial featuring Britney Spears, BeyoncĂ© and P!nk.
  • Production Posse: His regular collaborators are creative director Yasha Malekzad and executive producer Kasra Pezeshki.
  • Romance on the Set: He met Anna Kournikova when she starred in the "Escape" video, and they later got together and now have three children.
  • Stunt Casting: The video for "Hero" featured two big names at the time, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Mickey Rourke.
  • What Could Have Been: He initially wasn't wild about "Bailando", but changed his mind after the recording process.
