Trivia / Elite Dangerous

Go To

  • Ascended Fanon:
    • Those who had pledged £4500 or more to the game's kickstarter campaign were able to write novels that would be considered as Canon within the Elite: Dangerous universe. A few of these novels include: Elite: Dangerous - Docking is Difficult, Elite: Dangerous - Nemorensis, and Elite: Dangerous - Wanted.
    • Ten player-created factions have become actual Minor Factions within the Elite: Dangerous universe.
    • In an example that's also a Heartwarming Moment, the space station orbiting the planet Vulcan in LHS 3006 was renamed "Leonard Nimoy", in honor of the actor's passing.
    • While not to the same extent as the above, the Fuel Rats have been mentioned on GalNet News in the past and the tie-in pen-and-paper RPG allows player-characters to have been former members of the charitable rescue organisation.
  • Dummied Out: All access corridors have a set of blast doors that are always locked open, so they are virtually unnoticeable unless the Camera Suite is used to take a close-up look at the corridor. A Game-Breaking Bug, which has since been patched, occasionally caused these to shut, blocking the entire corridor and destroying any ship attempting to pass through.
  • No Dub for You: The game only had localization in British English, French, European Spanish, German, Brazilian Portuguese and Russian, the latter being the only non-Latin language the game supports. While players using non-Latin or non-Cyrillic alphabets (such as Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, etc.) can play the game, typing in their local languages is impossible as the game doesn't support typing using the IME systems required to type on those languages, requiring them to type either in English or using Romanized words instead. That didn't stop the game from being popular in some East Asian countries, like Japan. (see below)
  • Preorder Bonus: Kickstarter backers received a number of cosmetic bonuses based on the tier. All backers received the Planet decal, the Mercenary Tier received unique liveries for the Sidewinder, Eagle, Cobra, and Viper and a skull decal. Different tiers allowed for Multiple Game Openings such as starting in a basic Cobra MkIII instead of the standard Sidewinder. More directly, preordering the Horizons Expansion Pack unlocked the Cobra MkIV, a variant of the MkIII which trades speed for better hardpoint placement and an additional small slot.
  • Referenced by...: The Light Novel series Reborn as a Space Mercenary: I Woke Up Piloting the Strongest Starship! is E:D as an isekai. The author is a fan of the game.
  • Saved from Development Hell: The game had languished in Development Hell for 14 years - three years longer than Duke Nukem Forever - before finally releasing into version 1.0 in December 2014.
  • Sequel Gap: December 2014? That's a good 19 years after Frontier: First Encounters released in 1995!
  • Urban Legend of Zelda: Some Commanders will entice new players with suggestions of free or heavily discounted Anacondas (one of the largest ships currently available to players, a solid Jack of All Trades you can use for almost anything) available at Hutton Orbital. A station that is around an hour and a half of real-time flying at full speed to get there, given it's a bit short of a quarter of a lightyear away from the jump-in point.
