Trivia / Eddie Guerrero

Go To

  • Breakup Breakout: Whilst it's debatable whether Eddie or Chris Benoit was the first of the Radicals to find real singles success in WWE, Eddie was the first to be World Champion.note  Played perfectly straight with Eddie and Chavo, though the latter's been employed for a longer period of time.
  • Died During Production: A longstanding rumor is that on the day he died, Eddie was scheduled to win the World Heavyweight Championship (which would have been his second world title) at the Raw/Smackdown Supershow taping in a Triple Threat Match so that an injured Batista could drop the title and not lose any credibility (and to also set up a rematch later down the line). Stephanie McMahon seemed to more or less confirm this, but Batista, in his book, said that the original plan was for the third man in the triple threat, Randy Orton, to win, and Shawn Michaels has hinted that plans were in place for him and Eddie to interact in that year's Survivor Series match and possibly set up a program for WrestleMania. Considering Stephanie gave that confirmation not long after Eddie's death, it's possible she may have been emotionally compromised at the time.
  • Fan Community Nickname: "Eddicts".
  • Fatal Method Acting: Eddie nearly killed himself during the 2004 Judgment Day pay-per-view by accidentally blading an artery in his forehead after a chairshot from John "Bradshaw" Layfield. Due to the excessive amount of blood lost, he went into shock after the match when he was backstage. This and this alone is the reason that Judgment Day 2004 is rated "TV-MA" on the WWE Network.
  • Franchise Zombie: The "Eddiesploitation" mentioned in Tear Jerker. When the exploitation of his death received the dubious WrestleCrap Gooker award, this was part of the introduction:
On the marquee of this site, it says, "The Very Worst of Professional Wrestling." Truly, this induction is the very embodiment of that tagline. The seemingly never ending exploitation of the late, great Eddie Guerrero is the absolute worst of pro wrestling, bar none.
  • Playing Against Type: His character lied, cheated, and stole. He also happened to be a born-again Christian in real life.
    • Crosses over to a point with The Artifact as he (much like Shawn Michaels) converted at the tail end of his career - also, much like HBK, by that point, his persona was so iconic that there was really no changing it.
  • Real Song Theme Tune
  • What Could Have Been
    • The Observer five star rated match he and Art Barr had against El Hijo Del Santo and Octagón was originally just supposed to be Eddie versus Santo. Art begged AAA to be included because When Worlds Collide was being broadcast in the USA. Barr incidentally died shortly afterwards so his career (sort of) ended on a high note.
    • Also related to Art Barr's death, both main members of Los Gringos Locos were contacted by Paul Heyman about joining ECW in the mid-1990s, with plans for them to feud with Public Enemy. Instead, the only piece of Barr that joined Guerrero in Philly was the Frog Splash.
    • Eddie was scheduled to work at Survivor Series in 2005, as part of a team representing SmackDown going up against a team from Raw in a Traditional Survivor Series Match. Had Eddie lived to see that match, we could have potentially seen Eddie and Shawn Michaels face off in the ring for the very first time. (Perhaps made worse by Michaels noting during the memorial broadcast that they hadn't known each other in the ring, but instead through their shared faith.)
      • Also, had Eddie still been alive, some writers have said that him and Shawn Michaels were to have a match at Wrestlemania 22, what would have been their first match together, and build would have started at Survivor Series or the Royal Rumble, even Vince McMahon was loving the idea.
    • During his first match in WWE, Eddie and Perry Saturn were scheduled to beat the New Age Outlaws. However, Eddie dislocated his elbow while attempting a Frog Splash, was injured for 6 months, and the entire Radicalz angle was rebooked more or less on the fly. The original plan did not call for the Radicalz to turn heel.
    • WWE considered Eddie to win the 2004 Royal Rumble match before creative ultimately went with Benoit. He would go on to win the SmackDown Royal Rumble match and the WWE Championship from Brock Lesnar at No Way Out, though.
