  • Creator Backlash: Sharon Tate did not like working on the film. She especially hated the marketing focusing on her in a bikini, derisively saying things like "sexy little me".
  • Creator Killer: This was the last film Alexander Mackendrick ever directed, and he retired to teach at film schools instead.
  • Fatal Method Acting: Stuntman Bob Buquor drowned while filming the skydive scenes.
  • Follow the Leader: This was one of many 'beach party' movies released in the mid-60s.
  • Lying Creator: Martin Ransohoff claimed this was Sharon Tate's film debut (hence why she gets an 'Introducing' credit) when she'd had bit parts in other films (such as an uncredited role in The Americanization of Emily) and a supporting role in Eye of the Devil (where she gets the 'Introducing' credit as well).
  • Money, Dear Boy:
    • Tony Curtis later said that the film was "utterly ridiculous" but he agreed to appear in it because he got a percentage of the profits.
    • The Byrds also recorded the theme song as a quickie cash grab.
  • Reality Subtext: Tony Curtis in the twilight of his career, playing a man who knows he's too old for the scene he's trying to inhabit anyway.
  • The Red Stapler: Sharon Tate's character Malibu inspired the Malibu Barbie Doll.
  • What Could Have Been: Julie Newmar was the first choice for Malibu, but she was unavailable, and so Sharon Tate was cast.
