- Hostility on the Set: Dennis' behavioral problems led him to falling out with every bandmate with the exception of his brothers Brian (who wasn't around much) and Carl. He and his cousin Mike Love had an especially bad relationship. He was very nearly kicked out of the band and only Carl standing up for him kept him in.
- One-Hit Wonder: His solo album Pacific Ocean Blue could be considered this as it outsold The Beach Boys' output as a band around that time.

- Also, if Dennis could have overcome his demons like Brian Wilson and still be living today.
- At one point he and Carl (The band's "creative wing") considered quitting the Beach Boys and forming their own band in order to get away from the "formula wing" of the band (Mike, Al, and Bruce) in the 70s. Some of the names they wanted to work with included Carl's brother in law Billy Hinsche, Warren Zevon, George Harrison, former bandmate Blondie Chaplin, and potentially even Brian if he were well enough. It never got beyond the talking stage.
