Trivia / Dancing at Lughnasa

  • Actor-Inspired Element: Although Gerry is Welsh in the play, he's described as having "an English accent". Rhys Ifans keeps his natural Welsh accent.
  • Fake Irish: The sisters in the film are played by Meryl Streep (American), Kathy Burke, Catherine McCormack and Sophie Thompson (all English). Michael Gambon is Irish but Not Even Bothering with the Accent - which is justified by Jack having been abroad in Africa for years.

  • The Other Darrin: Obviously most of the cast members from stage to screen were different. However Brid Brennan played Agnes both on the stage and in the film, while Gerard McSorley played the adult Michael on the stage and the narrator in the movie.
