Trivia / Curtain

Go To

  • Torch the Franchise and Run: Agatha Christie killed off Hercule Poirot to give the character a definite ending and prevent other writers from writing more books with him after her death. She actually wrote Curtain during World War II when she feared she might be killed in an air raid. In the event, she wasn't, and continued writing for several decades; Curtain was not published until a few months before her death in 1976.
    • Averted with the publication of Black Coffee by Charles Osborne in 1998 (this being the novelisation of Christie's 1930 play of the same name), and later with The New Hercule Poirot Mysteries by Sophie Hannah. All these novels were authorised by the Christie estate.
