TV Show:

• Defictionalization: The Homeland Security red berets seen in the show were first seen in the SDCC 2015 convention. In 2016, they're available as giveaways, though you have to be living in America to avail of USA Network's promo. There's always auction sites to use in order to get them if you want to collect show memorabilia.
• Inspired by…: The idea of the Earth being occupied by a hostile alien force is based on occupation by Axis Forces in Europe and Asia in World War II and the occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan by American-led coalition forces.
• Separated-at-Birth Casting: Nobody else in the extended Bowman/Kenner clan look particularly close, but Sarah Wayne Callies (Katie) and Amanda Righetti (Maddie) really could pass for sisters in real life with ease.

Novel:

• Recycled Script: The story begins in a Wretched Hive and The Protagonist ends up leaving it by joining the crew of a starship that ends up being the last remnant of humanity. This is quite similar to what happened to Dave Lister in Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers.
