  • Hostility on the Set: Liv Ullmann complained in an interview that Charles Bronson was rude to her and her daughter during the filming. She claims that he returned her child to her when she wandered to his table and admonished her by saying "Please keep your child to yourself".
  • International Coproduction: This was an Italian-French co-production.
  • Late Export for You: The movie wasn't released in the USA until 1974, over three years after it was made. The film was shot in France in 1970 and first released around the world there on 18 December 1970.
  • Romance on the Set: During filming, Terence Young began a relationship with Sabine Sun, who had a minor role as a nurse. They would marry and Sun would appear in most of his films onwards, and remained together until Young's death in 1994.
  • Wag the Director: According to Michel Constantin in his biography, concerning his fight scene with Charles Bronson in the kitchen, Bronson and Terence Young argued about the settings and the way of fighting. Young finally decided to agree with Bronson, admitting Bronson was right. Young gave more importance to the efficiency of the sequence than to his own pride.
  • What Could Have Been: Jason Robards was originally cast in the role of Captain Ross.
