  • Acting for Two:
    • Bill Hader voiced both Flint and his FLDSMDFR in the first movie.
    • Mark Edwards voiced Flint and Steve in the TV series.
  • Actor-Shared Background: Flint hurriedly admits to Sam that he loves peanut butter, then lies about being allergic to it when Sam says she has a peanut allergy. Bill Hader (Flint's voice actor, and yes, the same one who plays Stefon on SNL) actually does have a peanut allergy in real life.
  • Cast the Expert: The WNN anchor is played by real-life weatherman Al Roker.
  • DVD Commentary: With voice actor Bill Hader and writers/directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.
  • Kids' Meal Toy: It got a toy of Steve, the Gelatin Jump, and a 'Snowball Catcher', among others, at Burger King.
  • The Other Darrin: Terry Crews replaces Mr. T in the sequel.
  • Playing Against Type: Anna Faris plays a Closet Geek, in contrast to her usual ditzy roles.
  • Real Song Theme Tune: "Sirius", by The Alan Parsons Project, plays during the ceremony organized by the mayor for Flint and his machine.
  • Recursive Adaptation: A movie novelization of the film was released.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • During the earliest development, Flint Lockwood was the most successful scientist in the world who got stuck in Swallow Falls when his food machine malfunctioned, but this characterization was deemed too unlikable.
    • A storyline involving Vance LaFleur and The Science League was cut, although a poster remains in Flint's bedroom.
    • Originally, instead of Flint going to the out-of-control FLDSMDFR, the mayor shot it out of the sky, and it fell into the ocean, creating a huge monster made entirely out of food. This was cut due to the resulting monster being too similar to one in another film that had just been released in early 2009. Smaller food monsters would eventually appear in the sequel.
    • There was a cut scene from the movie where Flint and the Mayor were sword fighting using celery sticks.
    • The directors wanted to the theme from Xanadu to play over the closing credits, but couldn't secure the rights.
    • A cut post credits scene would have revealed that Flint is the Grandfather, who narrates the story in the book.
