  • Enforced Method Acting: When Jason Statham threatens Kim Basinger with his belt, her fear is genuine, because she did not know in advance what would happen. Instead, she asked Statham to "surprise her." They got the shot on the first take.
  • No Stunt Double: Chris Evans did his own car stunts. Before production began, he was trained for five weeks at a Los Angeles stunt school. Most of the stunts are done by the actors themselves, also.
  • Playing Against Type: Jason Statham as Ethan, the chief villain (actually the Dragon-in-Chief).
  • Recycled Script: Had Phone Booth not spent 40 years in Development Hell (and two and a half years on the shelf after being completed), this film probably would have never happened. In fact, the script of this film was derided as being the same as Phone Booth's but in reverse.
  • Technology Marches On: Ryan talking about how awesome his cell phone is because it can take pictures and record feels silly now when almost every cell phone made does both.
  • Uncredited Role: Eric Bress and J. Mackye Gruber did uncredited rewrites of the script.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • The original script followed a thief who is contacted by a mysterious woman asking for help and decides be a hero for once but discovers that he's caught up in someone else's criminal conspiracy.
    • The owner of the car Ryan steals was originally supposed to be Simon Cowell As Himself, but he was unable to accept the part. When Rick Hoffman took the role, the character was changed to an irate lawyer.
    • Heath Ledger and Seann William Scott was considered for the role of Chad.
