  • Life Imitates Art: All three of the primary technologies featured in the modern scene (HDTV sets, virtual reality headsets, and voice recognition via virtual assistantsnote ) weren't possible in American homes of The '90s, but they can now be found in many modern homes today (although VR still remains relatively niche, and at-home virtual assistants are not quite as widely used as HDTVs yet).
  • Non-Singing Voice: In the 1994 version, Jean Shepherd provides the speaking voice of the father, John, but the character's singing voice is provided by Jess Harnell.
  • Technology Marches On: The "21st Century" scene is a strange mix of technologies that the real world has indeed caught up with (HDTV, voice assistants, VR headsets) — and technologies that are drastically outdated (car phones) or never caught on (game gloves, which are now associated less with the future than with Narm-y appearances in Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare or The Wizard).
